Are Dash Cameras Worth It? What Inland Empire Drivers Should Know

The short answer: yes, especially on the 60 freeway

If you commute Moreno Valley to Riverside, Corona, or downtown LA, you drive past at least one wreck per week. Insurance fraud — staged collisions, brake checks, false whiplash claims — is up across Southern California. A dash cam is the cheapest insurance policy you can buy.

What a dash cam actually does

Modern dash cams do four things:

  1. Loop-record the road ahead in 1440p or 4K so you have video of any collision.
  2. G-sensor lock the file when the car is hit, so it does not get overwritten.
  3. Parking mode records anyone who bumps or touches your car while it is parked.
  4. Cloud upload sends key clips to your phone over WiFi or built-in LTE.

Dual-channel vs three-channel or four-channel

  • Dual(front + rear only): $350-450 installed. Great starter. Moet Popular choice
  • Three channel (front + rear + inside): $450–$650 installed. Great for uber, lyft or ride sharing. Can also be used as a baby monitor or installed in front grill for better clearance.
  • Four channel (front + rear + side mirrors): $950-1250 installed. Required for rideshare drivers (Uber, Lyft) and recommended for parents of teen drivers.

Brands we install

We are factory-trained on: Acumen

-Check out all their options- https://acumen-camera.com/

We do not install Amazon-branded $40 dash cams. They die in California heat in 90 days.

Hardwire vs cigarette lighter

A cigarette lighter dash cam only records when the car is on. To get parking mode (recording while parked), the cam needs to be hardwired to a fuse and battery. We hardwire with a battery cutoff so the camera will not drain your starter battery.

Will it really pay for itself?

The first time someone backs into your truck in the Costco parking lot and drives off, your $400 dash cam pays for itself. The first time someone slams on their brakes in front of you on the 215 and claims whiplash, your dash cam is the difference between a $30,000 settlement and your insurance company laughing the case out.

We have customers who have used dash cam footage to:

  • Win at-fault disputes with insurance.
  • Identify catalytic converter thieves.
  • Get hit-and-run drivers prosecuted

Get it installed clean

A dash cam taped to the windshield with a cigarette lighter cord dangling across your dash is amateur hour. We hardwire ours with the cable tucked behind the headliner, A-pillar, and kick panel — no visible wiring. The cam looks factory.
